We understand that sometimes students can get into trouble with their credit while in college. That's why Wachovia does not approve students for credit cards who have not yet established a credit history.
Students who want to apply for a credit card but who don't have enough credit history will need a co-applicant (usually a parent) with a strong credit profile to apply with them. Students must also be at least 18 years old at the time of application and a U.S. citizen.
We use these guidelines as a way to keep students protected from mismanaging their credit early in their financial experience. If you are not comfortable being a co-signer, there are other ways to help your student make good financial decisions.
If you decide to co-sign for your student, or if your student already has a credit card, we can give you tips for how your child can safely and wisely manage credit.
