JOINT ACCOUNTS AND BALANCE ALERTS

Joining student and parent checking accounts can be a win-win situation.  Parents have access to monitor their child's account to make sure their student is being financially responsible, while students can ask their parents to transfer money more easily into the account whenever they need it.

With a joint checking account, both the student's and parent's name would appear on checks. Statements would also come addressed to both. This is good way for a parent to keep tabs on how a student is doing with paying for their personal expenses that require writing a check or having a payment deducted from a bank account.

Also, students can learn to use their ATM and debit cards wisely. They will learn to spend only what they have in their account, and not rely on credit for necessities or luxuries they cannot afford.

Wachovia makes it easy
We offer a variety of checking options that make it easy for parents and students to peacefully co-manage their finances.

If your student links their account with your Wachovia checking account through College Connection, they get 12 non-Wachovia ATM transactions per month: four withdrawals, four account inquiries and four transfers—without paying a Wachovia fee.1

And, any Wachovia checking account comes with free Balance Alerts, a secure and convenient way to maintain control of your student's finances. You can sign up to receive Daily Balance Alerts at the beginning of each business day, or sign up for Threshold Alerts, so that you are notified when your account balance goes above or below any amount that you specify.
