What is an Intranet?

Technical Definition

According to its technical definition, Intranets are private, secure Web-based networks that connect groups of people such as employees and business partners to vital corporate information, and allow for secure communication and collaboration among these groups. In other words, an Intranet is like your company's own private Internet. Business Applications

More importantly, your company probably possesses most, if not all of the equipment and software that you would need to run one of these Intranets, making their adoption an easy cost-benefit decision to make.
