Just because you own your own business doesn’t mean you can’t have a retirement plan that fits your needs. A Simplified Employee Pension (SEP) Plan is easy to establish and maintain, and offers tax-deductible contributions (from 0% to 25% of annual compensation) for you and all your eligible employees.1

Benefits

  • Setup is easy—the employer completes Form 5305-SEP This document requires Adobe Acrobat Reader., a one-page IRS form, and employees complete the IRA application.
  • Contributions are deductible as a business expense for the employer.
  • Employees enjoy tax-deferred earnings.
  • All SEP employer contributions go into a Traditional IRA in the name of the employee, relieving the employer of having to oversee the assets after they are contributed.
  • A wide range of investments are available—including stocks, bonds, and mutual funds.

Funding your SEP IRA

  • You establish the plan by completing the form linked below, and provide a completed copy of the form2 to your eligible employees.
  • Your employees complete their own IRA applications (each employee is responsible for making their own investment decisions). Instructions are provided below.
  • The plan must be established and funded prior to your company’s tax-filing deadline, including extensions.
  • Initial investment in the SEP IRA will go into your choice of money market funds.
  • You can choose investments yourself or get professional guidance from a Wachovia Securities Financial Advisor.
  • Either way, you can choose from a full range of investments, including stocks, bonds, and mutual funds from families like Fidelity, Vanguard, and Evergreen through Wachovia Securities, as well as bank products such as FDIC-insured CDs3 and money market accounts.
