WACHOVIA DELIVERS ITS 50 MILLIONTH CHECK IMAGE

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Wachovia Corporation has delivered its 50 millionth retail check image since the company started offering the online service in 2000.

Online check images allow customers to quickly access their posted checks any time through Wachovia's Online Banking Service. Customers use the service to verify payments or access checks for tax or business purposes.

"When we first offered this service, customers saw it as a convenience," said Ron Kerr, Wachovia's Internet director, Retail Products. "Now we know from customer feedback that this functionality is a crucial part of managing their day-to-day finances."

Wachovia launched online check imaging more than three years ago to serve the needs of retail and small business customers. The service is available free of charge to Wachovia Online Banking customers. Currently, more than 3.6 million customers are enrolled in Online Banking with almost 3 million checks viewed monthly.

"Wachovia has been well ahead of the retail check image and delivery curve for years," said Lawrence Baxter, chief eCommerce officer for Wachovia. "Being on the leading edge has enabled Wachovia to provide a service that relatively few banks currently offer."

In addition to simplifying reconciling monthly checking statements, Wachovia makes it easy for customers to access a posted check by logging on to Online Banking at www.wachovia.com/myaccounts, and from a transaction screen, clicking on the check number.
