HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR MY MOVE?

At Wachovia, we understand the stress and joy surrounding your big move so we’ve put together this moving guide and checklist to help you focus on more important things, like what color to paint the family room. Whether you are moving in town or relocating out of town, we can also help you find the right Wachovia branch and financial specialist through our Personal Finance Contacts and Locations.

Handling the Move

Choose your movers and line up your moving days. Make sure to account for the days that you’ll need to pack, travel, and unpack. If you’re relocating to a new area and haven’t yet found a permanent home, consider where you’ll need to store your belongings. Here are some things to consider when making a move:

  • Get a binding estimate from the moving company. Make sure the amount is written in the contract.
  • Check with the local Better Business Bureau or consumer complaints department regarding the moving company’s record.
  • To cover potential damage, check existing homeowner's or renter's policy.
  • Ask about expected gratuities.
  • Have the contract include a guarantee of how many hours the job will take, allowing an overrun of no more than 10%.
  • Inform the moving company of how many stairs are at your existing and new home.
  • Watch loading and unloading and examine all items carefully before signing a receipt.
  • Document an inventory of your belongings before you pack.
  • Get everything in writing.
