HOW DO I QUALIFY?
Eligibility for Parent PLUS loans is not based on household income, so parents at all income levels are welcome to apply.
You must:
The FAFSA is normally not required to receive a Parent PLUS Loan. However, some schools prefer that students complete the FAFSA first. Have your child check with their school for more details.
Wait. What’s the FAFSA?
Many federal aid programs are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. So your child's first step should be filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The FAFSA is a federal form used to determine how much your family will be asked to contribute to your child's education, and how much aid your child can receive in state and federal grants, federal loans, and other programs. Have your child check with their school’s financial aid office to see if they require the FAFSA.
Once your child has turned in a completed FAFSA, they will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR). The SAR helps your child's school determine how much aid they will be eligible to receive.
If the FAFSA is required of your child, help them meet the deadline.
Remember, the early bird gets the worm when it comes to federal aid.
So help your child fill out their FAFSA as soon as possible after
January 1. Your child can complete their FAFSA online or learn more by following the links below.
