EMPLOYER OF CHOICEAWARDS AND RECOGNITIONWachovia is proud to be recognized by a number of publications and organizations for its ongoing commitment to a best-in-class and diverse workforce. Here is a partial list of some recent awards Wachovia has won: Working Mother magazine has again named Wachovia one of America's 100 best companies for working mothers. Wachovia was honored based on its corporate culture for women, programs and policies for childcare, leave for new parents, opportunities for women to advance, flexible work arrangements, work/life benefits (such as elder care) and other employee programs. In selecting this year's winners, Working Mother gave special weight to leave policies, stating that it is critical for a mother to be able to stay home as long as possible with her newborn without suffering professionally. DiversityInc has named Wachovia one of the Top 50 Companies for Diversity for the sixth consecutive year. Wachovia ranked No. 14 in the magazine's annual survey—one of five financial services companies making the Top 15 in a year that saw 13 new companies gain spots and displace Eastman Kodak, Wal-Mart, Comcast and other 2007 winners. Some 352 companies with more than 1,000 employees—35 more than 2007—competed for the Top 50 distinction by answering surveys of more than 200 questions focusing on CEO commitment, human capital, corporate communications (internal and external) and supplier diversity. Wachovia has made Diversity Inc.’s Top 50 since 2003—a standing the magazine attributes to the company's strength in the Human Capital and Corporate and Organizational Communications categories. For the seventh time, LATINA Style magazine has recognized Wachovia as one of the top 50 companies for professional Hispanic women in the United States. Wachovia was named to the LATINA Style 50 out of more than 800 of the nation's leading companies that responded to the magazine's questionnaire about career development opportunities for Hispanic women at their organizations. Wachovia received recognition in several different categories, including company flex time, scholarship assistance, inclusion of Latina senior executives and vice presidents, mentoring and leadership training programs, Hispanic/Latino/Latina Employee Resource Networks and recruitment of women through Hispanic media. Wachovia's solid reputation for hiring and promoting African American women has won the company another honor from Essence magazine. For the fourth time, Essence has named Wachovia to its list of the 25 Great Places for Black Women to Work. Essence said an added plus for African American women working at the company was Wachovia's "community involvement," including its $2 million support of the United Negro College Fund and $1 million for rebuilding historically black colleges and universities after Hurricane Katrina. For its 2007 survey, Essence used a new method—polling more than 60 leading headhunters, human resources representatives, research firms and nonprofits to name the best companies hiring, retaining, supporting and promoting black women. The magazine then researched each of the companies nominated and their track records with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Wachovia is one of the “Elite Eight” named to Pink magazine’s inaugural list of the Top Companies for Women. Pink created the list to recognize companies that are showing strong results in advancing women in the workplace. Companies were chosen based on their answers to a 100-question survey that determined their strength in four categories: Power – the number of women leaders in top positions, Pipeline – leadership training, mentoring and coaching programs that help retain and advance women leaders, Pay –evidence of equitable pay and People – a culture that balances work and life. Military Spouse magazine recently ranked Wachovia fifth on its list of the nation's "Top 10 Military Spouse Friendly Employers." The magazine based the rankings on company responses to a survey focusing on recruiting, hiring practices and benefits for military spouses. Wachovia's Recruiting division has created a recruiting strategy to specifically attract military talent. Rich McCormack, Military Spouse's editor, said that "companies which build solid military spouse recruiting programs will enjoy competitive advantages over their peers – and the companies on our list have done just that." The Black Collegian's Top 100 Employers Survey included Wachovia among its major employers in industry, government, and business examined for hiring trends. The annual survey provides current information on where the jobs are, allowing graduating classes to focus their searches on employers actively hiring. Students entering the job market are encouraged to use the survey to spot developments in employment that may affect their job search.
