Mission
To improve the quality of life for children and families living in low-income communities in the region by concentrating resources on comprehensive, neighborhood-based economic and community development initiatives.
History
The Wachovia Regional Foundation was established in 1998 by Wachovia Corporation as an independent grantmaking body with the goal of supporting the revitalization of low-income communities located in New Jersey, Delaware, and eastern Pennsylvania.
Since 1998, the Wachovia Regional Foundation has worked to ensure its grantmaking practices meet the needs of neighborhoods by partnering with effective nonprofit organizations. Three years after its inception, the Foundation refined its focus on comprehensive community and economic development to specific target initiatives at the neighborhood level. Through this approach, the Foundation emphasizes its grantmaking on supporting the creation and implementation of resident-driven neighborhood plans. To date, the Foundation has awarded over $47 million to over 130 organizations.
