June 21, 1999 Wachovia Names Hamrick Regional Executive in Richmond Spencer D. Hamrick Jr. has been named Capital Region executive for Wachovia Bank, N. A. He will be based in Richmond and succeed James C. Cherry, who, as previously announced, will become Wachovia's Virginia Banking president. He will have overall responsibility for all lines of business within the region, which primarily consists of the Richmond and Fredericksburg areas. Hamrick comes to Richmond from Greensboro, N.C., where he currently serves as manager of Regional Corporate Banking for the Piedmont Triad Region. "Spence Hamrick is a seasoned banker and proven leader who will continue expanding Wachovia’s presence in the Capital Region," Cherry said. "His previous experience in loan administration, commercial mortgage and corporate banking will serve our customers well." Hamrick joined Wachovia in 1980 and has held management positions in the General Loan Administration and Commercial Mortgage groups. He was elected senior vice president in 1992 and assumed his current position in 1996. Hamrick is a native of Charlotte, N.C. He received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Guilford College. Hamrick serves on the board of visitors of Guilford College. In Greensboro, he served as vice chairman of the Greater Greensboro Housing Foundation, vice president of Neighborhoods United, director of the Greensboro Rotary Club and the Triad World Affairs Council. He was fund-raising captain for the Greensboro Salvation Army and served on the Guilford County Schools Options and Opportunities Committee. |
