May 26, 1999 Grube Named Wachovia's Southern Region Executive in N.C. Paul G. Grube has been named regional executive for the Southern Region of Wachovia Bank, N.A. Grube will have responsibility for Wachovia's banking operations in southern and western North Carolina to include Buncombe, Cabarrus, Catawba, Cherokee, Clay, Gaston, Henderson, Iredell, Jackson, Macon, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Stanly and Union counties. He will remain based in Charlotte, where he currently leads Regional Corporate Banking activities corporate-wide. He succeeds Isaiah Tidwell, who, as previously announced, is moving to Atlanta to become president of Georgia Banking. "Paul Grube is a seasoned banker and proven leader who will continue expanding Wachovia’s presence in the Southern Region," said Will B. Spence, Wachovia’s chief executive officer for North and South Carolina Banking. "His previous experience in loan administration and corporate banking will serve our customers well." Grube joined Wachovia in 1984 as a corporate banking associate in Winston-Salem. He has held assignments in Tampa, Fla., as a corporate banking officer; in Atlanta as a loan administration officer in the U.S. Corporate Division; and in Charleston, S.C., as regional corporate banking manager. He was elected senior vice president in 1993 and moved to Charlotte in 1995 as corporate banking manager for the Western North Carolina/South Carolina district of Wachovia’s U.S. Corporate Finance Division. He assumed his current position and was elected senior vice president/group executive in early 1999. Grube is a native of Cape Carteret and a graduate of Guilford College. He received a master’s degree in business administration from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. Grube is a member of the board of the Greater Carolinas Chapter of the American Red Cross in Charlotte. |
