May 13, 1999 Cockman to Serve as Wachovia's Western Region Executive in Virginia I. L. Cockman Jr. has been named Western Region executive for Wachovia Bank, N.A. He will relocate to Charlottesville from Richmond, where he currently serves as consumer banking manager for the Central Region. O. Kenton McCartney, who also serves as Virginia Banking president for Wachovia, has led the Western Region since 1997. As announced earlier, McCartney plans to retire July 31 and will be succeeded as Virginia Banking president by James C. Cherry. "Wachovia is fortunate to have Lindy Cockman available to fill this regional leadership role," Cherry said. "He is a veteran banker with the right skills and experience to maintain the momentum in this important market." Cockman joined Wachovia in 1970 and was elected senior vice president in 1988. He has held assignments as branch manager, retail banking manager, office executive and area executive and was named to his current position in 1998. Cockman is a native of Rockingham, N.C., and a graduate of East Carolina University. He also attended the Young Executives Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. |
