First Union Names Tom Ray to Area President SARASOTA, FL - Thomas Ray has been named area president for Sarasota and Manatee counties. In addition, he is the commercial sales manager for the Gulf Coast region, which encompasses Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, Lee and Collier counties. Ray joins First Union from Barnett/NationsBank where he was senior retail executive for Sarasota and Charlotte counties. As First Union's Sarasota and Manatee area president, Ray will focus on meeting the financial needs of local businesses and individuals. He will work closely with First Union's private banking and trust to provide financial solutions for consumers with a relationship banking need. Ray is a seasoned banking professional that has more than 18 years of financial services experience. "Tom's broad base of experience, his knowledge of the market and his involvement in the Sarasota community make him a perfect fit for his new responsibilities as area president," said Dick Botthof, regional president, First Union - Gulf Coast. Ray graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor's of science degree in finance and received a master's degree in business administration from the University of South Florida. He is actively involved in the Community Foundation, Brunch on the Bay Committee and Take Stock in Children.
