Wachovia Launches Marketing Program Tied to Winning Score of the 2008 Wachovia Championship Promotion Encourages Consumers to "Save Like Champions" and Offers High Yields CHARLOTTE, NC—Wachovia today announced that it has developed a new marketing program called "Save Like A Champion" tied to the 2008 Wachovia Championship and the company's new Way2SaveSM program. The Save Like A Champion promotion will give customers with a Way2Save savings account a monthly interest rate for the months of June, July and August that equals the under par score of the 2008 Wachovia Championship winner. The 2008 Wachovia Championship will take place in Charlotte April 28 through May 4. "Over the past five years, the winning score of the Wachovia Championship has ranged from 10 to 13 under par," said Francie Gottsegen, Wachovia's Sponsorships & Alliances manager. "This unique promotion encourages consumers to sign up for a Way2Save account, while also creating excitement for tournament attendees and viewers as they anticipate and predict what their new interest rate will be." The Way2Save program is Wachovia's automatic savings program that encourages consumers to save by transferring $1 from their checking account into a new special savings account when they make a Check Card purchase or an electronic payment. With a Way2Save savings account, customers earn a 5.00% Annual Percentage Yield (APY) plus a 5 percent annual bonus in the first year, and a 2.00% APY and 2 percent annual bonus in the second and third years, up to $300 per year. After three years, a competitive, traditional savings rate is applied. In addition, customers can choose to transfer up to $100 a month from their Wachovia checking account to the Way2Save savings account to see their savings grow even faster. Advertising for the promotion started April 14. All current Way2Save customers will earn the new three-month interest rate, and consumers can sign up for the Way2Save program through May 30 to take advantage of the Save Like A Champion promotional interest rate.
