October 18, 2000 National Bank of Commerce Branches Become Wachovia Offices Oct. 20 National Bank of Commerce branches will begin using the Wachovia name Friday, Oct. 20. The name change will follow the merger of National Bank of Commerce into Wachovia Bank, N.A. Wachovia Corporation completed its merger with Commerce National Corporation June 1. The four National Bank of Commerce branches in Orange County will close Thursday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m. as National Bank of Commerce systems are converted to Wachovia. The branches will open Friday, Oct. 20, at 9 a.m. under the Wachovia name. "NBC branches will have a new name on Friday, but Wachovia’s commitment to providing exceptional service for our customers in Orange County will not change," said J. Kenneth Coppedge, Wachovia’s Florida Banking president. "Customers will continue to be served by the people they know." Customers now will have access to Internet banking and investing as well as a wide array of wealth management and business banking services. Wachovia Bank, N.A. is the principal subsidiary of Wachovia Corporation, an interstate financial holding company with assets of $72 billion as of Sept. 30, 2000. Wachovia Bank has nearly 700 offices and 1,400 ATMs in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. In Florida, Wachovia has five corporate offices and 37 branches in Brevard, Broward, Hillsborough, Martin, Orange and Palm Beach counties. |
