Wachovia Hires Karen Curtin as Director of Network Management for Financial Centers & ATMs

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Wachovia Corp. announced today that Karen Curtin has joined its General Bank Distribution team as director of network management.  Curtin will lead Wachovia’s network planning efforts for its 3,100 financial centers and more than 5,000 ATMs.

Curtin will report to Jon Witter, head of Wachovia’s General Bank Distribution group, which manages financial centers, ATMs and phone and online channels for the company’s banking unit.

“Over the past 18 months, Wachovia has brought its distribution channels under one roof,” Witter said.  “The result is a structure that should help us achieve our goal of becoming a distribution expert that can provide excellent service and industry-leading sales performance.  Karen will help us further these efforts by consistently managing the deployment of our financial centers and ATMs.”

A 22-year banking veteran, Curtin joins Wachovia from Washington Mutual, where most recently she led that company’s advertising, brand management and innovation program.  Previously, she served as senior vice president for Planning and Franchise Development & Retail Store Innovation, where she led the company’s de novo branch building and developed its Occasio retail store program.  She also spent four years in line management, serving as a regional manager in Los Angeles and a group manager for Florida.

Curtin and her family will relocate to Charlotte from Bellevue, Wash.
