Wachovia Corporation Raises Prime Rate CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Effective today, Wachovia Corporation (NYSE:WB) raised its prime interest rate to 5.00 percent from 4.75 percent at all of its banking subsidiaries, including Wachovia Bank N.A. and SouthTrust Bank. The prime rate is a benchmark used to set interest rates on various forms of corporate and consumer credit. It is one of several interest rate bases used by Wachovia, which lends at interest rates above and below the prime rate. The prime rate last changed on Sept. 21, 2004. Wachovia Corporation (NYSE:WB) is one of the largest providers of financial services to retail, brokerage and corporate customers, with retail operations from Connecticut to Florida and west to Texas, and retail brokerage operations nationwide.
