PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

Wachovia is committed to superior customer service—and delivering on this commitment requires every employee to perform at his or her highest level. Our employee performance management process provides clearly defined goals and responsibilities tied to measurable, meaningful outcomes. It also helps managers maintain clear lines of communication with you throughout the year, so during your annual review, there are no surprises about what should have been accomplished.

The goals of the performance management process are to:

  • Allow you to take an active role in establishing performance goals
  • Provide frequent feedback on progress toward your goals
  • Summarize your yearly performance during a results summary
  • Drive opportunities for rewards and recognition

While performance management tools may vary among Wachovia lines of business, the cornerstone of our performance management process is collaborative communication between you and your manager. In fact, frequent communication between you and your manager is vital to this effort. This communication may include:

Goal Setting
Coaching
Results Summary
Pay and Promotion

Goal Setting

You and your manager collaborate on critical performance areas and behaviors. You benefit by playing a more active role in the goal-setting process. You and your manager discuss where and how to focus your talents in order to achieve results that affect both the bottom line and your individual success. If you are a member of a team, you and your teammates should work together to identify performance goals that promote team efficiency. This process equips you to take personal responsibility for your individual performance and development and that of your team.

Coaching

You and your manager discuss progress toward goals and develop strategies for meeting those goals and learning new skills.

Results Summary

You and your manager summarize prior discussions related to performance accomplishments. Supportive feedback may be utilized from multiple sources, including results from periodic coaching sessions. An overall performance rating can then be determined.

Pay and Promotion

Base pay changes and variable pay awards are determined by your manager, based upon your performance and accomplishments throughout the year. Promotional opportunities and career growth discussions may occur between you and your manager. You and your manager may also establish a time to finalize goals for the coming year.
