Wachovia Names Gibson Commercial Banking Executive for North and South Carolina
Gibson will be located in Columbia, S.C.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Wachovia has named Stan F. Gibson Commercial Banking Executive for the company's Carolinas Banking Group, including North and South Carolina. Gibson will be responsible for developing strategies for middle market client acquisition, expansion and retention for companies with annual revenue of over $15 million. He also will be responsible for the company's sales efforts in the Government and Institutional markets of North and South Carolina.

Gibson brings more than 30 years in Carolinas banking experience to this role. Most recently, he was president of Bank of America's South Carolina operations. He will report to Carlos Evans, EVP and Wholesale Executive for Wachovia's General Bank.

"We are thrilled to have Stan join our team," said Evans. "I have had the opportunity and pleasure to work closely with Stan in the past, and I am convinced that his knowledge of our market, his understanding of the customer base in the Carolinas, and his ability to build key relationships with company owners and community leaders is going to help us build on our position as the – hands down – number one commercial bank in the Carolinas in both market share and customer service."

"Having Stan on the team is a big win for Wachovia," said Walter McDowell, Wachovia's CEO for the Carolinas Banking Group. "I've competed with Stan for most of my career at Wachovia, so I'm delighted to finally be on the same team. He is a respected banker and terrific leader."

Gibson previously served as the North and South Carolina strategies commercial executive, the North and South Carolina Eastern region commercial executive, and in several other banking leadership roles, all with Bank of America and its predecessors.

Gibson received a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina. He is very active in the South Carolina community and serves or has served as:
