The Capital Management Group offers a balanced mix of products and services through one of the nation's largest asset management and retail brokerage firms. The group's complete line of investment products includes the third largest bank provider of insurance annuities as well as corporate and institutional trust services to institutional and retail investors. Driven by a robust multi-channel distribution network, a diversified set of products and services and merger-related synergy, the Capital Management Group (CMG) strengthened its competitive position in key businesses in 2001 while setting company records with more than $4.7 billion in annuity sales and more than $11 billion in net mutual fund sales.

Oversees all financial operations and activities for the company, ensuring clear and effective reporting for management while maximizing opportunities for expense savings. Primary groups include Treasury and Planning, Financial Regulatory Reporting, Corporate Tax, Audit, Investor Relations, Corporate Financial Services, and Corporate Real Estate. CFOs work with each line of business. Employs roughly 1,700 primarily in Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Jacksonville, and Philadelphia.

General Banking Group
Each regional/state bank operates as a part of the General Bank, with a president who is responsible for the entire operation within the banking franchise. The regions operate on common corporate systems so customers can access products and services when and where they want them. Our regional/state banking groups include:
- Atlantic Coast (New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut)
- PennDel (Pennsylvania and Delaware)

Human Resources and Corporate Relations
Provides the full range of human resources and organizational consulting services to the company, including performance management, compensation systems, diversity strategies, training, recruiting, and executive/leadership coaching. Manages Wachovia's reputation through an intense focus on all constituencies including customers, shareholders, employees, communities, and government officials. Primary staff functions include recruiting, compensation/benefits, performance/leadership consulting, workforce policies, and customer service. Business partner teams are aligned with divisions of the company.

Legal Division
Provides legal and regulatory advice for management and the company as a whole. Line-of-business legal practice groups include Litigation, Capital Markets, Capital Management, Corporate and Securities, Corporate Services, General Bank/Specialty Finance, and Wealth Management. Employs roughly 200 primarily in Charlotte, Philadelphia, Boston, New York, and Richmond.

Operations & Technology
The Operations & Technology Group provides a range of support services, which include:
- End-to-end monetary transaction processing
- Information technology development and delivery
- Operational support for process and procedures
- Procurement and supplier management
- Protection of corporate assets through facility and data security
- General support and consulting
Provides disaster recovery, systems integrity and support, maintenance of Wachovia’s single-system platform, integrated delivery channel for customer care, and provides Wachovia customers the opportunity to manage their financial relationships through the Internet and cross-channel synchronization efforts.

Risk Management
Defines and oversees Wachovia's capacity and appetite for credit, operational, compliance, and market risk. Primary functions accomplished through line-of-business risk groups and institutional risk groups consisting of Portfolio Management, Market Risk, Risk Support Services, Operational Risk Management, and Compliance Risk Management teams. Employs roughly 2,000 primarily in Charlotte, Philadelphia, Winston-Salem, Atlanta, Jacksonville, and Richmond.
