FIRST UNION AND WACHOVIA WAIVE ATM FEES FOR CUSTOMERS AT NEARLY 5,000 ATM LOCATIONS

First Union and Wachovia announced today that, as an immediate result of the completion of their merger as the new Wachovia Corporation (NYSE: WB), ATM surcharges and non-First Union/Wachovia ATM transaction fees will be waived for customers of both banks at the nearly 5,000 First Union and Wachovia ATMs on the East Coast.
Customers can use their current ATM card and PINs at either bank’s ATMs from Connecticut to Florida to make cash withdrawals or check account balance inquiries without paying a surcharge (other account fees may apply).
