First Union's Vaughan Honored at Corporate Leadership Event
CHARLOTTE - Instrumental in helping First Union build a national brand name and for directing the company's national advertising campaign, Parra Vaughan, Senior Vice President and Director of Integrated Marketing Communications was awarded the Spirit of First Union Award on Thursday, September 23 .
"She personifies positive spirit, and her commitment to accomplishing some pretty rigorous business objectives is unwavering," said Jim Garrity, Senior Vice President and head of the Advertising and Brand Management division, as he invited the astonished Vaughan to join him on stage in front of 700 of the company's most senior executives at the Charlotte Convention Center. Another nominee described Vaughan as "fair, honest and dedicatedas professional and human as you would want in any employee."
The award is based on nominations from coworkers according to various criteria for excellence, including an individual's drive for results, teamwork, innovation and passion and enthusiasm for the job. Vaughan was among eight employees honored.
Vaughan was also recently honored with a Women in Business Achievement Award from the Charlotte Business Journal. In addition, she serves on the Fundraising Board for Junior Achievement and United Way of the Central Carolinas and frequently guest lectures at area universities teaching marketing and advertising.
She joined the company in 1997 after gaining years of experience in marketing and brand management with two other Fortune 500 companies. Her education achievements include graduating with honors in industrial engineering from Georgia Tech and receiving an MBA from Northwestern University.
