Tidwell will relocate to Atlanta from Charlotte where he currently serves as regional executive of the bank’s Southern Region of North Carolina. He will report to Thompson.

Having him available to lead Georgia banking activities will enable me to focus on the broader, strategic issues associated with a two-state territory," Thompson said.
Tidwell joined Wachovia in 1972 and has held management assignments in commercial, corporate and regional loan administration. He also has served as Forsyth County executive in Winston-Salem and area executive for Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. He was named Southern Region executive in 1993 and was elected executive vice president in 1996.
He is a native of Charlotte and a graduate of North Carolina Central University. He received a master’s degree in business administration from the Babcock School of Management at Wake Forest University. He is a life member of North Carolina Central University Alumni Association and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.
Tidwell is a trustee of Davidson College. He serves on the boards of visitors at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Johnson C. Smith University and the advisory board of A Child’s Place. He serves on the boards of University Research Park and Presbyterian Healthcare. He is a director and chairman-elect of Carolinas Partnership and a director and past distribution committee chairman of Foundation for the Carolinas. He also serves on the board of Lance Inc. and the advisory board of Rack Room Shoes. He served on the Southern Governors’ Commission on the Future in 1998. He is a member of First Baptist Church-West, where he serves on the board of deacons and as chairman of the finance committee.
