Wachovia Securities Names Brian McManus Head of CDO Research

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Wachovia Securities announced today that Brian McManus has joined the firm as Director and head of Collateralized Debt Obligation (CDO) research, reporting to Brian Lancaster, Managing Director and head of the firm’s Structured Products Research group. McManus will be based in Charlotte.

McManus, a former head of CDO research and strategy at Merrill Lynch & Co., where he was an Institutional Investor-ranked CDO analyst, has 15 years of experience analyzing structured finance products and interest rate derivatives in the U.S. and Europe.

“We are extremely excited to have Brian join us to lead our CDO research group,” Lancaster said.  “In addition to being recognized by many investors as one of the top analysts in this space, Brian brings a relative-value approach that fuses an understanding of the collateral as well as the structures to help guide CDO investment decisions for our institutional clients.”

At Merrill Lynch, McManus founded the global CDO research group and also covered a broad array of asset classes, including high-yield and investment-grade bonds, leveraged loans, emerging market debt and structured finance.

Previously, McManus was chief quantitative analyst for the Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS) and Collateralized Mortgage Obligation (CMO) groups at Dean Witter.  He also was head structurer, pricing new issue CMO securities at Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc., and ran the MBS research group at E.F. Hutton.

Wachovia’s Fixed Income Division provides a full range of origination, sales and trading services, including structured products like commercial and residential mortgage-backed securities, as well as credit products like investment-grade and high-yield bonds, leveraged finance and syndicated loans, and global rates products like derivatives, foreign exchange and municipal finance.
