Wachovia Securities Names George Johns Head of Financial Institutions Investment Banking Group

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- Wachovia Securities announced today that George Johns has joined the firm as Managing Director and Head of the Financial Institutions Investment Banking practice, reporting to Kevin Roche, head of Wachovia's Investment Banking Group.

Johns, formerly Co-Head of Global Financial Institutions Corporate and Investment Banking at Banc of America Securities, will be responsible for developing and implementing origination strategy for Wachovia's client base of financial institutions, including these in the specialty finance, insurance, asset management and commercial bank sectors.

For the past five years, Johns was responsible for coordinating the delivery of strategic advisory and capital raising services to Banc of America Securities' financial institutions client base. Prior to joining Banc of America Securities in 1999, Johns worked as a senior banker for Merrill Lynch & Co., Salomon Brothers and The First Boston Corporation.

Johns holds an M.B.A. from Stanford University and a B.S. from Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa.
