Wachovia CEO Ken Thompson to Present at Lehman Brothers Financial Services Conference

CHARLOTTE, N.C.— Wachovia CEO Ken Thompson will present on Wednesday, September 13, at the Lehman Brothers Financial Services Conference.  His presentation will be available via live audio webcast beginning at 7:45 a.m. EDT September 13 through Wachovia’s Investor Relations Web site at Wachovia.com/investor.  A replay will be available from 7:00 p.m. EDT September 13 until 5:00 p.m. EDT Monday, October 16.

The merger with Golden West Financial Corporation (NYSE: GDW), parent of World Savings Bank, is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2006, pending regulatory approval. With this merger, Wachovia will strengthen its position in California, Texas, Florida, New Jersey and New York, and enter attractive metropolitan areas in five additional states: Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas and Nevada. Combined, the company will serve banking customers through 3,400 offices in 21 states and Washington, D.C. In addition, Wachovia will gain mortgage lending operations under the World Savings Bank name in 39 states.
