United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI)
Wachovia is a recent signatory to the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), a unique global partnership between the United Nations Environment Programme and the private financial sector. Over 160 institutions including banks, insurers and fund managers work with UNEP to understand the impacts of environmental and social considerations on financial performance.
Industry Trade Associations
Wachovia was a founding member of the Environmental Bankers Association (EBA) more than 10 years ago. Wachovia has been represented on the EBA's Executive Committee and Board of Governors for several years. Currently, a Wachovia representative sits on the EBA's Board of Governors and chairs its Global Committee on Sustainability.
Wachovia also is a participant in the Environmental Risk Managers' Roundtable of the Risk Management Association(RMA).
Sustainable Design Associations
Wachovia Corporate Real Estate sponsored the Charlotte Chapter of the United States Green Building Council's (USGBC) inaugural event in March 2006.
Wachovia representatives serve on the board of the International Design Center for the Environment, whose mission is to integrate life-cycle environmental stewardship into the design, construction, and furnishing of buildings.
The Forum for Corporate Conscience
Wachovia was a founder and visionary sponsor of The Forum for Corporate Conscience, a CEO-driven initiative on corporate sustainability, responsibility and ethics. Nearly 100 CEO's attended the inaugural forum in March 2003, which advocated a focus on the new "triple bottom line"— economic, social and environmental performance.
