WACHOVIA CORPORATION ANNOUNCES LEAD ADVERTISING AGENCY
Winston-Salem's Mullen/LHC Selected as Agency of Record

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Wachovia Corporation today announced that Mullen/LHC, based in Winston-Salem, has been selected as the company's lead advertising agency. Mullen had previously served as the advertising agency for legacy Wachovia.

“Wachovia has a longstanding relationship with Mullen,” said Jim Garrity, head of corporate marketing for Wachovia Corporation. “During the selection process, we used a number of criteria consistent with our new corporate brand and vision, including strategic and creative solutions. Mullen’s strategy was a perfect match for our new company. We look forward to a collaborative partnership and leveraging Mullen’s expertise as we build awareness of our new company and brand.”

The new brand will make its advertising debut in campaigns for Wachovia Securities this spring, and with the first bank deposit conversion in Florida in the fall.

“We’re excited about partnering with Wachovia and the opportunity to promote a winning organization as two great companies come together,” said John Fitzgerald, President of Mullen/LHC.

Mullen is part of the Interpublic Group (IPG), one of the world’s largest marketing and communications services companies. Mullen’s lead role will be complemented by Wachovia’s secondary agency Erwin-Penland, based in Greenville, S.C.

Wachovia Corporation (NYSE:WB), created through the September 1, 2001, merger of First Union and Wachovia, had assets of $330 billion at December 31 and $28 billion in stockholders' equity. Wachovia is a leading provider of financial services throughout the East Coast and the nation.
