DTC
The Depository Trust Company, an organization formed by the New York Stock Exchange to hold certificates for securities held by member firms. Member firms deposit certificates that are transferred to DTC on the books of the issuing companies. The issuing corporations pay dividends to DTC, which, in turn, credits the accounts of the member firms, which also in turn credit the client accounts. Registration of share in "street name" or "nominee name" in conjunction with the use of the DTC, greatly simplifies and speeds financial transactions for securities.
