Wachovia Securities Names Rob Engel Head of Mergers and Acquisitions
CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- Wachovia Securities announced today that Robert A. Engel has been named Managing Director and Head of Mergers and Acquisitions. Engel comes to Wachovia from Gleacher Partners, LLC, an independent, corporate advisory firm headquartered in New York that Engel helped to establish in 1990 and where he was a Managing Director and Head of Mergers & Acquisitions and Restructuring. At Wachovia, Engel will be based in Charlotte and report to Kevin Roche, Head of Investment Banking.
"We are extremely pleased that Rob has joined our platform to lead our M&A team. He has the right balance of leadership, transaction experience and partnership orientation to grow our M&A business and increase the level of strategic dialogue with our corporate clients," said Roche.
"I am excited to join Wachovia Securities. I am energized by the prospect of helping the firm grow its mergers and acquisition practice in conjunction with the firm's overall build-out of the investment banking business. One of my key focuses will be to ensure that our clients view us as a formidable competitor offering M&A and other investment banking services," said Engel.
As Head of Mergers and Acquisitions at Wachovia, Engel will lead a team of 40 bankers providing mergers and acquisitions advisory services to both financial sponsors and corporate clients. The mergers and acquisitions group is aligned with origination bankers in industry coverage groups and throughout Wachovia's General Bank franchise.
Engel spent 15 years at Gleacher Partners where he helped build the firm's mergers and acquisitions practice and was involved in numerous high profile mergers and acquisitions transactions, restructurings, and leveraged finance and merchant banking transactions. In 2000, Engel opened up Gleacher's M&A practice in London. Before joining Gleacher, Engel worked at the investment bank Morgan Grenfell from 1986 to 1990.
